This study examines the morphological terminology employed by Abu al-Fath Uthman Ibn Jinni in Al-Tanbih ‘ala Sharh Mushkilat al-Hamasah. It traces the labels used for major morphological categories and compares them with the terminology associated with the Basran tradition and later grammatical usage. The study adopts descriptive, inductive, and analytical methods and focuses on the verbal noun, the noun of a single occurrence, the active participle, intensive forms, the assimilated adjective, the passive participle, nouns of time and place, and the instrument noun. The findings show that Ibn Jinni’s terminology in Al-Tanbih varies in its degree of stability. In some cases he uses the established term, such as ism al-fa'il, while in others he prefers a descriptive or abbreviated label, such as al-fi'lah al-wahidah for the noun of a single occurrence, al-waqt for the noun of time, al-sifah for the assimilated adjective, and al-maf'ul for the passive participle. Comparison with his other works also suggests a gradual development toward clearer and more stable terminology.
